What is collagen? Why is it "gut-healing"?

This page has a lot of in-depth info on the benefits of collagen:

https://www.furtherfood.com/collagen-protein-superfood-gut-health-heals-leaky-gut-digestive-problems/

"Gelatin is a nutritionally rich and complete form of collagen that helps restore and invigorate healthy skin, hair, teeth, nails, joints, digestion and hormonal balance. While gelatin provides the same benefits as collagen hydrolysate, it skips the molecule-reducing hydrolysis process, resulting in a powder that gels when added to food and drink."
